Pemmican

Pemmican is a traditional dish in Antarctica. According to history, the Pemmican came from America that roamed and needed food to survive. Pemmican is a perishable food for several years if stored in an airtight container and away from light. Pemmican is a mixture of dried meat for 12-13 hours, fat and berries.

Material:

  • 300 g beef cut as thin as possible
  • 350 g beef fat
  • 100 g dried cranberries
  • 1 tsp salt
  • sprinkle of spices and black pepper (optional)

How to make:

  1. Oven beef until the water content is gone because if there is water at a certain temperature the meat will freeze so use the lowest possible temperature
  2. After the water content is gone, mash the beef with a food processor or blender until it forms a powder, set aside
  3. Set the pan to a low temperature to remove the moisture from the fat. It usually takes 20-30 minutes then let it cool
  4. Mix meat, fat and dried cranberries. Also add spices and salt. Then stir until smooth.
  5. Put in small cans or flatten and store in the refrigerator
  6. Pemmican is ready to be served anytime
