The Jeep Wagoneer family is growing and its smallest addition is all-electric and will come in 2024. Arguably the most handsome member of the family and will go head to head with the likes of the Range Rover Sport. It has the looks, has the performance but it hasn't got its name - not yet.
For now the company has codenamed the new all-electric Jeep Wagoneer "S" - apparently the "S" stands for speed, flashy and sexy according to Ralph Gilles, Jeep CDO. The company promises a dual-motor AWD powertrain with a 600 HP supercar that deserves 3.5 seconds of acceleration from 0 to 60 mph. The days of SUVs accelerating in 8 seconds to 60 mph and being called fast are really over.
The Jeep promises a 400-mile range but that's more likely when the car is driven with extreme care, with performance it claims will be very difficult to keep your right foot off the accelerator.
Although the car is signed for production and goes on sale in 2024, Jeep has yet to decide on a name for it. The company had several names for it but in the end couldn't decide which one to choose. The decision was taken to involve Jeep fans and the wider community.
Jeep will be holding an online contest starting next month with a name to be chosen before the end of the year. The company will review the shortlisted names, check the trademarks just to be sure and then the winner will be announced. Once the name is approved, a new Wagoneer reservation will begin.
The decision on where the electric Wagoneer will be produced has yet to be announced, but with two new battery factories in Indiana and Ontario, it makes sense for the car to be produced nearby.
The electric wagoneer will first enter the North American market in 2024 and will then be exported to Europe. The car is one of four new electric Jeeps to be sold in 2025. It joins the recently launched Jeep Avenger and will be followed by the Jeep Recon and Wrangler 4xe.
